SPECIFICATION SCHOOL

School of Specification

Part of a new approach to built environment learning and training which includes apprenticeships and is broadly intended to improve access, SOS is a series of modules covering products, regulation, construction systems and innovation.

It’s a sponsored platform and there is a subscription but it’s very affordable, and in theory the subjects will be continually added to, building a useful and current body of knowledge.

For a quick and clear rundown on carbon issues in building fabrication I recommend Specification for Low Embodied Carbon, particularly the opening section of videos by structural engineer Dave Rayment Rament Structures. From the big picture to low carbon construction approaches and understanding building lifespans, these concise films pack in a lot of information plus pragmatic advice on how and why to make the case.

Developed by Architecture Today so focussed on structures rather than interiors but this is stuff we all have to know about and be able to communicate.
